Healing Hands and Open Hearts: The Impact of MedReach Inc.

In East Africa In the rural mountains of Tanzania and Uganda, where access to medical care is scarce and hope can seem distant, a group of dedicated missionaries arrive year after year—not with fanfare, but with faith. MedReach Inc., founded by Steve and S.L. Hudson, is not just a medical mission organization—it is a Gospel-centered movement that ministers to both the body and soul. At the heart of MedReach is a simple but powerful belief: every person deserves dignity, care, and the hope of Jesus Christ. Each year American-led teams partner with local African staff to host medical / Evangelism camps. These camps are no small endeavor. Each one serves between 1,500 to 3,000 people—many of whom walk long distances for the chance to receive help. The services offered are as diverse as the needs of the people. Free medications are dispensed under the supervision of trained volunteers and medical personnel. Women are empowered through hygiene and dignity classes—teaching everything from personal care to God-given value. Midwives receive updated training to improve maternal care in remote villages. Children, often overlooked in global health efforts, receive clothing and loving attention. Even simple acts like giving a child new clothes or placing reading glasses on a grandmother's face open doors for deeper conversations about the love of Christ. And yet, amid the medicine and meals, the core mission never wavers: spreading the Gospel. Whether through evangelism, devotional teachings, or simply living out the love of Jesus, every camp is infused with a message of eternal healing. Volunteers and villagers alike are reminded that while physical healing is vital, spiritual restoration is even greater. Steve and SL Hudson’s vision has grown into a ministry of immense reach. But it’s the quiet, sacred moments—where tears fall in gratitude, prayers are whispered in Swahili, and the name of Jesus is lifted high—that truly define MedReach. It is in these moments that heaven touches earth. MedReach Inc. stands as a living testimony: when faith and action walk hand in hand, transformation follows. (Bio By J.D. Edwards)

MedReach Inc. is a non-denominational, faith-based ministry dedicated to organizing and leading short-term medical evangelism teams throughout East Africa. Since 2002, under the leadership of Steve and SL Hudson, MedReach has partnered in-country with Here’s Life Africa (HLA)—an organization that has supported over 50 Jesus Film teams composed of local nationals across Tanzania, Uganda, and Malawi since 1997.

HLA teams join MedReach teams to combine compassionate medical care with the life-changing message of the Gospel, bringing physical healing and spiritual hope to some of the most underserved regions in East Africa.
